A ccessible par beau temps et en l’absence de vent fort -surtout de nord-est- la baie de Saint-Jean est partiellement interdite au mouillage en raison de la proximité de l’aéroport, sauf si l’on ne franchit pas la barrière de corail, à 150 mètres du rivage. C’est un mouillage sympathique et très civilisé, rythmé par le ballet des petits avions décollant de l’aéroport. La plage, appréciée des touristes pour le calme de ses eaux, est dominée par le mythique hôtel Eden Roc. Les restaurants et les commerces de la baie de Saint-Jean sont tout proches de la plage, accessible avec l’annexe. On trouve tout à Saint-Jean: du supermarché à la boutique de mode, en passant par la pharmacie, le traiteur et l’agence de voyages. It is a charming bay that vibrates to the rhythm of the small planes taking off from the airstrip that ends right at the beach. The mythic Eden Roc Hotel dominates the beach, which is popular with many tourists for the calmness of the water. Numerous restaurants and boutiques are close to the beach, which is accessible by dinghy. The village of Saint Jean also has everything from a supermarket to haute couture, by way of a drugstore, a travel agent, and gourmet food to go. Ses eaux bleu foncé et les collines qui viennent s’y noyer composent un paysage inhabituel dans la région. La partie marine de l’îlot fait partie intégrante de la Réserve naturelle marine de Saint-Barthélemy et des bouées de mouillage sont à la disposition des bateaux. La chasse sous-marine y est interdite, la pêche réglementée et les fonds sous-marins très beaux. C’est une escale parfaite pour déjeuner tranquillement et faire un petit plouf sur la route entre Saint- Martin et Saint-Barthélemy. Il est possible de débarquer sur la petite plage située à l’est du mouillage et une promenade jusqu’au sommet de l’île - qui est une propriété privée - est récompensée par un très beau panorama. The deep blue water and hillsides that drop straight into the surf make for an unusual Caribbean landscape. The marine part of the small island is in an area protected by the Saint Barth Marine Park and its mooring buoys are available to visiting boats. Spearfishing is forbidden, fishing regulated and snorkeling beautiful. Fourchue is the perfect spot to stop and have a peaceful lunch and enjoy a siesta or a swim en route from Saint Martin to Saint Barth. It is possible to go up onto the little beach located to the east of the anchorage and hike to the summit of the island - which is private property - and be rewarded by a beautiful panoramic view.
